To be an athlete is a difficult job as it requires a high levels of fitness levels to make the most out of their sporting career. However, injuries are always a part of the athlete’s life as majority of athletes injure themselves on the field due to one reason or another.

To get rid of the injury it is important for the athletes to undergo a medical treatment from the proper sports medicine physician or an orthopedic surgeon. However, there is no difference between the two as they both of them specialize in the musculoskeletal medicine and provide medical treatment for sports athletes. The difference between these two is that the former is trained in operative medical treatment of sport conditions whereas the latter is also trained in the operative treatment within these conditions.

At times, a sports medical physician may recommend an injured athlete to an orthopedic surgeon and can provide some useful tips for appropriate rehabilitative care as and when needed. Some of the most common conditions treated by these two include the ankle strain, knee and shoulder injuries, tendonitis and stress fractures.

It is important for the sports athletes to seek appropriate guidance from both these as and when it is needed.
